Future 02: A New Dawn in Jewellery Design

Ariadne Kapelioti's Award-Winning Collection Inspired by Euclidean Geometry

Human existence has always been deeply intertwined with the circle. From the celestial bodies that govern our days and nights to the cycles of birth, growth, and rebirth that define our lives, the circle is a potent symbol of life's most profound themes. Ariadne Kapelioti, a designer with a background in physics, has harnessed this symbolism in her Future 02 jewellery collection. The collection is a vibrant and playful exploration of the circle and its theorems as defined by Euclidean Geometry, symbolising a new beginning and a promising future.

The Future 02 collection stands out for its unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and advanced technology. Each piece in the collection is designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software and created using Selective Laser Sintering and Steel 3D printing technology. The materials for each design are carefully chosen, with 3D printed nylon and rubber parts, bookbinding wire, and silver .925 wire and elements used for the lightweight neckpieces and cuff earrings, and 3D printed black or gold-plated steel used for the rings.

The collection includes the "Try" Ring, the "Matter" Ring, the "Collect" Neckpiece, the "Lead" Cuff Earrings, and the "Dream" Neckpiece. Each piece is a testament to Kapelioti's patience, experimentation, and hard work, and each is a unique expression of her vision of a future where technology and artistry combine to create wearable art.

The Future 02 collection was developed in 2015 and 2016 in Greece, Belgium, and France. It is a reflection of Kapelioti's journey from the world of physics to the world of jewellery and fashion design, and her exploration of the possibilities offered by 3D printing. The collection is a visualisation of Euclidean theorems, transformed into patterns and forms of wearable art.

Despite the challenges of designing on a wide range of material basis, Kapelioti's Future 02 collection has been widely recognised for its innovation and creativity. In 2017, it was awarded Silver in A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award, a prestigious recognition for top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
